Become a social detective

Everybody talks about social media as the new revolution for marketing, communication, sales and even recruitment activities. I agree that social networks are wonderful tools with many diverse purposes (and I will write other articles on these purposes very soon). But, what if you don’t see the need to use social media for visibility, sales or recruitment? What if you wish to remain silent online?

Become a social detective by Florence Poirel

Don’t be afraid of silence: become a social detective!

You may not see the need to promote your business online, but there are many other ways to use social networks. I will focus on the three main networks (Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter) but the ideas below can obviously be true for any social network.

Best ways to protect your privacy and secure your personal branding!

While writing my next article on Linkedin functionalities and the best ways to use them to promote yourself, I thought of another article I posted a few month ago. So, as my next article will come out on Wednesday, I decided to re-post this previous article on Social Media, and its multiple dangers: the security over personal data, the risk that a potential recruiter would find personal information… and the best ways to secure your personal brand!

As a Gen Y, I obviously have a specific vision and opinion on Social Media; in my mind, there is nothing dangerous as long as you know where you’re going!

Get a job with social media!

There are several ways to search for jobs. You can send résumés and cover letters to targeted companies, respond to job offers you found in newspapers or on job search websites, network all around, and… promote your online profiles.  Believe it or not, getting a job thanks to social media is possible! How do I know it? Well, I got my first job that way!

Quick recap: I graduated in December 2011 and started looking for jobs right away. I did everything the books said: target the position I wanted to get, target the industry I wanted to work in, target the companies I was interested in and then get in touch with them with a specific message. I sent a lot of applications that way but … nothing.

The problem? Companies receive tons of applications every day! They see thousands of résumés and read (when they read them) hundreds of cover letters. And most of the time, your résumé will just cross their desk from the printer to the trash with nearly no stop in between.

But wait, there’s more!

An History of Social Media

The ubiquity of the internet has monumentally revolutionized how we interact with each other

From the first sent email to the current networking craziness, years went by. What about a lesson of history?

But wait, there’s more!

Bonjour Social Media Lovers!

Glad you found this page! I am pleased to meet you here.

As a French International Business & Communication Master student, I decided to validate my degree by writing a Research Paper on Social Media Value.

But what is the real purpose of Social Media? Isn’t it inviting people to share their opinions, tastes, concerns? This is why I created this blog. So feel free to post comments, ask questions and share your experiences!

A bientôt, Florence
