I agree that social networks are wonderful tools with many diverse purposes (and I will write other articles on these purposes very soon). Clean up the mess!

The two last blog posts focused on the classic steps and tools for your job/internship search. Let’s now get back to serious stuff and be ready to rock your social applications!

Before sending out your applications (résumé, cover letter, etc.) think about what the recruiter will do when (s)he receives it. Unless (s)he has an awfully low Internet connection_ in which case receiving your email must have been the miracle of the day, I bet (s)he will search you online.

Your Linkedin profile is more than a web page; it is your face, your mouth and your brain on the Internet, especially when you are looking for a job!

If you read the past articles, you now understand:
why you should not be afraid of social media,

– and finaly, how to build your professional community.

My last article talked about building your community. It is important to add past and new connections, but it is even more important to stay in touch with them. This is once they accept your connection request that the real job starts. And the real job is nurturing and optimizing this new growing network!

Build your community!

Social media are more than ever great tools for personal branding and job searching. If you read the previous articles on this blog, you are now fully aware of the advantages of professional networks such as Linkedin. If you followed the different steps detailed in the articles, then your profile is quite complete and you are now, hopefully, confident that your Linkedin profile will sell you correctly. Now what?

Well, now is time to make smart use of it and to connect with people: your peers, ex-colleagues, college classmates and… recruiters!
